History

Our history goes back more than 35 years, when a unique model of counselling was first offered to West Australians.

Our history

South West Counselling was established in 1982 under the name Mobile Counselling by social workers George and Willi Smith, with the support of a Board of Management based in Perth.

In a world first, this not-for-profit organisation brought mobile counselling to the rural and regional areas of West Australia. Mobile Counselling was funded through donations and offered free counselling services to isolated areas in Western Australia, including the Pilbara, Kimberley and the South West. Mobile Counselling travelled to these areas in a camper van that doubled both as counselling space and home for George and Willi Smith.

Mobile Counselling became South West Counselling in 1994, with a permanent office established in Busselton. South West Counselling continues to offer counselling services across the South West region and currently has offices based in Busselton, Bridgetown and Margaret River.
